Myth 2: The uses of statistics are merely tabulating data, building histograms and graphs, and drawing pie charts and bar plots.

Truth 2
This myth confuses the end goal with the means to achieve it. This would be the same as if we were to define the medical profession as a person whose goals are to use a stethoscope, stare at X-ray images, and administer intramuscular injections.

It is true that on a daily basis a statistician will produce graphical representations and perform diverse numerical calculations such as those mentioned and many others. However, he/she does this as a means for understanding data, making a judgment, identifying important features, and then drawing valid and relevant conclusions from the data.
