Myth 15: A deck of cards must be shuffled many times in order to produce a fair game.

Truth 15
American mathematicians Persi Diaconis and David Bayer proved mathematically that, in order to sufficiently mix a 52-card deck, it is only necessary to shuffle it seven times. It follows that shuffling a deck more than seven times is unnecessary and doing it less than seven times is insufficient. Learn more about this here.

Persi Diaconis will give a conference to the general public in Guanajuato in August as part of the Mathematical Congress of the Americas 2013.
